Yamaha YZF-R1 (2007-2021) — Maintenance Specs

The YZF-R1 is Yamaha's 998 cc liter-bike. The 2007-2008 generation used a conventional inline-four; the 2009-2014 crossplane-crank version (documented by the 2010 owner's manual) rewrote the engine's character; and the 2015-2021 model brought a full electronics suite and MotoGP-derived CP4 architecture (2019 manual). Oil capacity grew to 4.1 L with the filter on the newer bike, which also switched to LED lighting, a smaller YTZ7S battery and a 23 N·m drain-bolt torque. Both generations share NGK LMAR9E-J plugs at a 0.6-0.7 mm gap and 36/42 psi tire pressures. Note that 2007-2008 figures differ slightly and are not covered by the manuals used here - a human should verify those two model years before publication.
