Kawasaki KLR650 (2008-2021) — Maintenance Specs

The KLR650 is the archetype budget adventure bike: a single-cylinder 651 cc thumper, unchanged in essence from 2008 to 2020 apart from the 2014/2017 updates to suspension and brakes. The 2018 manual documented here covers the last of that generation; the 2021 redesign (KL650N) brought fuel injection improvements, LED lighting and a 23 L tank. Servicing is old-school simple: 2.0 L of 10W-40 with the filter, an NGK DPR8EA-9 plug, a 22 L tank and generously low 21 psi tire pressures for the 21-inch front wheel. Its 35-45 mm chain slack is the loosest in Kawasaki's range, and owners commonly fit larger tanks and racks for travel.
